Next summer, the contemporary art world will turn its attention to Cleveland as our city hosts the inaugural FRONT International: Cleveland Exhibition for Contemporary Art, a large-scale, multi-venue contemporary art program that will take place July 14-Sept. 30, 2018. In tandem with this global art event, the Collective Arts Network (CAN) Journal has announced plans to organize a companion triennial that will focus exclusively on artists based in Northeast Ohio. We’re pleased to announce our support for the CAN Journal triennial and local artists with a $50,000 grant.
In its first year, the CAN exhibition will include an art gallery fair and a curated exhibition of works by diverse local talents, both scheduled to take place July 7-29 at the 78th Street Studios. The goal of CAN’s triennial is to leverage the FRONT Triennial spotlight to elevate the work of local artists and foster connections with visiting curators, dealers and collectors. CAN exhibition organizers are also committed to promoting access and participation by minority artists.
We’re thrilled to continue our support for CAN Journal – a longtime partner in our Creative Fusion international artist residency program – and we stand behind CAN Journal’s mission to promote awareness of local artistic talent and opportunities. Our support for the CAN triennial also builds on our support for FRONT Triennial programming. Last year, we announced our funding support for the two inaugural artistic directors for FRONT. And earlier this year, we announced funding support through our Creative Fusion program to launch an artist residency program and new arts campus in Cleveland’s Glenville neighborhood.
2018 promises to be an exciting year for arts and culture in Cleveland. Mark your calendars, and stay tuned as more details are announced!
